LIFE AND TIMES OF MAJEK FASHEK (The Rain Doctor)
The 'Rain Doctor' as he is fondly called is a delight any day, any time. Born to an Osun State father, Majek grew up in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria.

Fully groomed in Bini culture & language (as his mother hails from there) he went to school and had his formative years in Edo State; to this day many still think he is from Edo State, Nigeria.
This handsome fair-complexioned fine musician started his music career as a Rock music enthusiast, in fact, he is a bonafide hot Rock Guitarist. Majek came into reckoning as the guitarist of 'The Jastix Band' in Lagos, he paired up with the likes of Black 'Rice, Amos Mcroy & Victor Essiet (who later became the arrowhead of 'The Mandators'). After the JASTIX band broke up, Majek went solo.
Born, Majekodunmi Fasheke, he later became widely known as Majek Fashek.
He kissed the limelight when he entered a contract agreement with Tabansi Records, the company inturn contracted legendary music producer Lemmy Jackson to package the star's musical career, which was delivered true to note.
Majek made his big break with his debut 'Prisoner Of Conscience' album which also featured the hit track 'Send Down The Rain' from which his numerous fans & admirers nicknamed him 'The Rain Doctor'.
His music swept Nigerians completely off their feet and as Nigerians sneezed, the rest of the West Coast of Africa became infected with the powerful virus of his music. Majek later recorded yet another hit album which featured the legendary Bob Marley's song 'Redemption Song' in a recap.
Also on that album was another big hit song - HOLY SPIRIT. To this day many musical Bands across Nigeria still play these songs at social gatherings.
What amazed many was how the rains would come tumbling down when Majek would indeed 'Send Down The Rain' live at many of his concerts. No wonder he was nicknamed 'The Rain Doctor'. Majek took his craft to the U.S.A. & did well there with the likes of hunky Wale Peku aka Kolete (bandleader and keyboardist), Uncle Chico (a machine on congas), King Pago (the midget whom Majek inherited from the awesome Sir Victor Uwaifor) etc.
Majek worked with various artists worldwide including Tracy Chapman, Jimmy Cliff, Michael Jackson, Snoop Dogg, and Beyoncé etc
It is undisputable that Majek who was known to storm his shows in handcuffs and clanging a huge bell, was a force to be reckoned with.
Majek died on June, 1st 2020 in New York, USA.
